Who BambooSIM suits

BambooSIM suits travellers who need mobile data for a set number of days abroad.

It suits you if you already know where you are going. Plans appear once you pick a country on BambooSIM's own site, and each one shows its data and trip length. Most travel eSIMs are data only, so you keep your UK SIM for calls and texts. Apps such as WhatsApp and FaceTime still work on the data.

It may not suit you if your phone is locked or lacks eSIM support. iPhones from the iPhone XS and XR (2018) onward support eSIM, as do recent Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones. Check your phone first, then compare the ranked plans in our travel eSIM tables.

How to see your price

BambooSIM shows its prices once you pick a destination on its own site. Each price depends on three things: destination, data and days. Set all three to see your total cost.

Start by choosing your country on BambooSIM's website. Then pick the data amount and number of days that match your trip. Note the price for each option.

Next, compare those prices with the cheapest plans in our travel eSIM tables. We read every deal from the provider's own website, and each table shows the date its prices were last checked. Tables rank plans cheapest first. When two cost the same, more data goes first.

Before you buy, compare your BambooSIM price with the cheapest plans on our travel eSIM page.

How to set up a travel eSIM

Setting up a travel eSIM takes four steps. You do the first two at home before you travel.

  1. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked.
  2. On Wi-Fi at home, scan the QR code or tap install in the seller's app.
  3. Abroad, set the travel eSIM as your mobile data line. Then turn off data roaming on your UK SIM.
  4. Keep your UK SIM on for calls and texts. WhatsApp and FaceTime still work over the eSIM.

Your plan's days usually start when it first connects at your destination, not when you install it.

Questions people ask

Is BambooSIM good value?
BambooSIM's value depends on your destination, data and trip length. Pick your destination on its site to see its prices. Then compare them with the cheapest travel eSIM plans in our tables, ranked by price, cheapest first.
Does my phone need to be unlocked for BambooSIM?
Yes. Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked to use a travel eSIM. iPhones from the iPhone XS and XR (2018) onward support eSIM, as do recent Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones. Check both points before you buy a plan.
When does a travel eSIM plan start?
A travel eSIM plan usually starts when it first connects to a network at your destination. Install it at home on Wi-Fi before you go, so it is ready to use when you land. Your days then count from that first connection abroad.
