Do you need unlimited?
You need unlimited data if you run out before the month ends.
Heavy users often stream films and music, video call for hours, or share their phone's connection with a laptop. Sharing a connection this way is called tethering. Gaming on the go uses a lot of data too.
Start by checking your last month's use. Open your phone's settings and find your mobile data total. Then use the mobile data calculator to estimate what you need each month.
If you use much less than that, a capped plan may cost less. Unlimited suits people who never want to think about data again.
What 'unlimited' can still limit
Unlimited data SIM deals can still limit your speed, hotspot use or data use abroad. Read these limits before you sign up, so there are no surprises.
Some providers slow your connection after heavy use. Others limit tethering, which means sharing your phone's data with a laptop. Roaming rules can also cap how much data you use abroad.
Look for the fair use wording on each provider's website. Then check it against how you really use your phone. Need the cheapest deal that suits you? Compare SIM-only deals.
Switch and keep your number
Keeping your number is quick. Step one: text PAC to 65075 to get your PAC code. Step two: give that code to your new network when you sign up. Your number moves in one working day, so calls and texts keep working. Don't want to keep your number? Text STAC to 75075 instead to leave your old network without it.

Questions people ask
- What is the cheapest unlimited data SIM?
- The cheapest unlimited data SIM is the deal at the top of our table, ranked by real cost. Real cost is what you pay over the contract, including stated price rises and setup fees, minus reward card cash, averaged per month. Commission never changes the order, and every table shows the date its prices were last checked.
- Is unlimited data really unlimited?
- Not always. "Unlimited" describes your data allowance, but each provider sets its own terms, so read them before you buy. Your signal depends on the network, too. Every UK SIM-only brand runs on EE, O2, Vodafone or Three, and brands on the same network share its coverage.
- Can I use unlimited data as home broadband?
- Whether a SIM works as home broadband depends on the provider's rules, so check them before you switch. For a fixed connection at home, compare our home broadband deals. Sort the table by speed to see the fastest options first.
