Who Sky broadband suits
Sky broadband suits households that want TV and broadband from one provider. Sky sells satellite and streaming TV, plus home broadband and mobile. It also sells TV and broadband together as bundles, shown in a second table.
Other groups may find Sky a good fit too. Full fibre means a fibre cable runs all the way into your home. Our table lists a 900Mb package. Sky also offers a social tariff. It is a cheaper plan for people on qualifying benefits, such as Universal Credit or Pension Credit. If you want TV without a satellite dish, Sky Stream works over broadband with a small box.
Sky may not suit you if full fibre does not reach your home. Full Fibre Gigafast is available to 79% of UK homes, so check your postcode on Sky's site first. If you only need broadband, compare Sky's real cost with BT broadband and Plusnet broadband in our table.
Network, speeds and availability
Sky broadband runs on full fibre, and our table shows an advertised speed of 900Mb. Full fibre means a fibre cable runs all the way into your home. Part-fibre uses copper for the last stretch, so it is slower and its speed falls with distance.
Sky sells its broadband over the Openreach network, which BT also uses. Sky's TV bundles include a 150Mbps full fibre option too. Sky says its Full Fibre Gigafast service reaches 79% of UK homes.
Availability depends on your address, so check your postcode on Sky's website before you choose. The speed you get also depends on your router and your Wi-Fi, not just the advertised figure. Sort the table by speed to compare the options.
What it really costs
Sky broadband contracts run for 24 months, and Sky's deal page states no price rise in pounds for these packages.
Sky's broadband includes Sky Pay As You Talk, with no set-up fee. Sky also offers up to £200 towards leaving fees, called switching credit. If you claim Universal Credit or Pension Credit, Sky has a social tariff, a cheaper plan for people on qualifying benefits.
Don't judge a deal on its monthly price alone. Our table ranks each deal by real cost. It counts every monthly price, each stated rise and any setup fee, minus any reward card value, averaged over the contract. Compare Sky with rivals in our cheapest broadband guide, then check the date the prices were last checked.
