Free .co.uk domain: where to get one for the first year

Names.co.uk, Your Company Formations and Wix each include a free domain for the first year.

Names.co.uk gives one .co.uk domain free with your first purchase. The offer covers the first billing period only. See the full Names.co.uk offer.

Your Company Formations includes a free .co.uk domain for the first year in its Digital package. That package also covers company registration and a free online company manager.

Wix paid plans include a free domain for one year. The voucher works only on a new domain bought from Wix. Pick the offer that fits your plans.

Year two costs the seller's full list price, so the free offer ends after the first period. Renewals are often higher than the first-year deal. Names.co.uk's offers cover the first billing period only, and renewals are at list price. 123 Reg renews .co.uk domains at its then-current list price.

Note the date your first year ends. You rent a domain for a set period and must renew it to keep it. Set a calendar reminder a few weeks before. A Wix free domain voucher cannot renew a domain you already own.

Before you buy, compare domain name sellers on what you will pay in year two.

• Register the name you want long term. Pick a name you like, because it becomes your website's address. You rent a domain for a set period, so renew it to keep it.
• Set a renewal reminder. Add the renewal date to your calendar now. Renewals are at list price, not the first-year price.
• Check transfer rules first. Names.co.uk lets you transfer a .co.uk domain in for free.
• Use it for email too. You can use your domain in your email address, such as hello@yourname.co.uk.
